CONSTRUCTION

The construction of the Ocean Explorer catamarans is made using only premium materials with properties meeting all design criteria for the vessel. All structural parts are checked by third party surveyor in addition to standard practice checks by notified body. This pushes the Ocean Explorer catamarans to a quality and workmanship level in world class.

RCD Status:

• Our understanding is that the vessel complied with the European Union Recreational Craft Directive and is Categorised CE- Ocean A (DNV-GL)

Hull Construction:

• Epoxy + e-glass, vacuum infused in female molds
• Structural bulkheads in carbon fiber, pre-preg lamination
• Centerboard cassettes in carbon fibre
• Shroud chain plates made in carbon fibre integrated into the hull
• Each hull is divided into 3 watertight sections
• Crashbox in bows for collision protection
• Hull, Awlgrip 9016 white
• Deck, Awlcraft 9016 white

Deck & Superstructure Construction:

• Main deck, Epoxy + e-glass, Carbon reinforced, vacuum infused
• Deckhouse framing structure made of Carbon
• Deckhouse roof, Epoxy + e-glass, Carbon reinforced, vacuum infused
• Forward crossbeam carbon infused with integrated trampoline net track
• Longeron carbon fiber infused, integrated anchor system and trampoline net track
• Davits custom made with electrical lifting
• Windows laminated/tempered glass. Grey STL-42 film between the layers
• Non-skid in Matterhorn white on deck and appropriate places on deckhouse roof

Centerboards, Rudders & Steering:

• Curved carbon centerboards for improved performance
• Centerboard lifting system electrical with indicators and backup system
• Rudders Composite
• Hydraulic steering system, options for wire and fly by wire steering systems

MACHINERY

The machinery and propulsion solutions are designed for best usage and optimized for this vessel. All design is based on useability and comfort. But to meet all possible requirements there is a great variety of options and customisations that can be incorporated to an Ocean Explorer Catamaran.

Engines & gearboxes:

• 2 x 80 hp YANMAR engines & saildrives
• Fresh water engine cooling via raw water intakes and heat exchangers
• Yanmar electronic gear/throttle controls
• Wet exhaust system with a lift silencer and a water/exhaust separator.
• Engines located aft, accessed through deck hatches
• Well insulated with fire retardant insulation materials
• The engine room is equipped with forced supply and exhaust ventilation.

Propulsion & Steering:

• Flexfold 20 x 16 LH3 – SDR, Propellers
• Hydraulic steering from port and starboard side with backup systems
• Carbon fibre helm wheels

ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS

The electrical systems are designed and installed for easy maintenance and easy use. With an industrial level automation system as standard on the vessels the boat will be state of the art in all aspects also giving endless possibilities for development of the systems.

Voltage systems:

• 24vDC domestic system with 12vDC engine start bank and 220vAC system via shorepower, generator or inverter
• The electrical system is grounded to the water by grounding plates, one in each hull

Battery Banks:

• 6x 200AH Mastervolt Li-ion 24vDC service batteries joined to supply 1,200Ah @ 24vDC
• 2x 80Ah 12vDC engine start batteries

Battery Charger:

• 2x Mastervolt 60Amp automatic battery chargers

Inverter:

• Mastervolt MASS Sine 24/5000 5kw 220vAC inverter

Alternators:

• Both engines fitted with 100A alternators

Generator:

• Fisher Panda 15000i PMS 15kw 220vAC diesel generator

Shorepower:

• Shorepower 230 V 50- 60 hz
• Mastervolt GI7 isolation transformer with main fuse and earth fault switch
• 3 x AC Bus, controlled from PLC system
• 220vAC sockets throughout interior

Digital Switching:

• Siemens NMEA Canbus digital switching system monitoring and controlling Sailing functions, Windlass & yacht controls, Daggerboards, Lights, Steering Console, Bilge system, Tank levels, Freshwater system, Black water system, Fuel system, Ventilation, Generator and Appliances

PLUMBING & GAS SYSTEMS

The plumbing systems onboard are designed to keep the maintenance and usage of the boat care free, however when there are challenges, main systems trouble shooting and maintenance are supported by the automation system of the boat.

Fresh Water:

• Fresh water pressurised by 24vDC centrifugal pressure pumps with 24 litre accumulator tank
• Hot water supplied by engine driven calorifier in 2x 50 litres hot water tanks with 1.2kw 220vAC immersion heater elements
• Hans Grohe shower and heads for fresh water supply in galley and heads
• Deckshower in locker at mast area
• Deck/Chain water in forward starboard locker

Bilge Pumps:

• Each hull is divided into 3 separate flooding sections, each section with own Rule 24vDC bilge pumps.
• Main bilge pump: Johnson F38 – 19 (Impeller pump)
• Generator room, bilge pump - Whale Gulper 320 ( membrane)
• All bilge pumps have external sensors.

Black & Grey Water Systems:

• Separate black and greywater systems
• 2 x 200 l blackwater tank
• Grey water from each drain goes to a small grey water collecting tank and is automatically pumped out to the sea. The galley runs straight out via its seacock located in the port aft bathroom.

Skin Fittings:

• Through hull fittings and seacocks in engine spaces AISI 316 stainless steel, seawater resistant brass
• Hull through fittings of composite.

TANKAGE

Dimensioning of tanks and systems are configured so the boat easily can handle owners and guests for long periods away from shore.

Fuel:

• 800 litres of fuel capacity in 2x tanks with transfer between hulls with electrical pump

Fresh Water:

• 600 litres of fresh water capacity in 2x tanks with transfer between hulls with electrical pump

Holding Tanks:

• 2x 200 litre blackwater holding tanks discharging overboard or via deck extraction points
• 2x greywater tanks

NAVIGATION & COMMUNICATION EQUIPMENT

Navigation & communications equipment is carefully decided together with the builder to provide the owner with the best possible set-up depending on the needs and desires.
