Founded in 1842 in Sarnico, a small northern Italian town on the shores of Lago d'Iseo, Riva can now be described as an experienced shipyard. Pietro Riva, a young fisherman with a repair yard, did a remarkably good job which forms the basis of generations of quality construction.
In 1880 Ernesto Riva, one of Pietro's sons, took over the yard. While retaining the goodness of the past, Ernesto added a new dimension to the Riva products, the first combustion engine was installed and larger boats were built for passenger transport and freight. Serafino succeeded his father. He stopped producing larger boats and came up with the idea to launch Riva as a specific outboard boat. In 1912 Serafino managed to reach the respectable speed of 24 km / h on his racing boat. He was a winner in the international circuit of prehistoric powerboat racers.
In addition to racing, the pleasure boat market developed well. Riva has responded to this with her ubiquitous craftsmanship and experience, combined with an unprecedented luxury and stylish version of her products. In the 50s, heir Carlo Riva acquired the expertise and prestige of the shipyard and created a model series of wooden pleasure boats with the characteristic lines that are considered irrefutably beautiful until today.Technical developments did of course continue, in 1969 the first Riva with polyester hull left the yard. Expansion of the model series followed with the highlight of joining the Ferretti Group in the year 2000. With these new Italian owners, after a few years under the English flag, the blood pressure of the old-timers in Serafino returned.
Today Riva stands for a wide range of stylish pleasure yachts. Represented in the Netherlands by the Belgian Yacht Consult.
